The Titanic is Going Down

THE TITANIC IS GOING DOWN!

On the night of April 14-15, the Titanic set sail from Southampton England for New York. The manufacturers of the boat said it was UNSINKABLE. It was HUGE and was called a "floating city". At the time it was the world's largest man-made moveable object. She set sail that fateful night with more than 2300 passengers. Several passengers wrote in their diaries that they had overheard people claim that "even God couldn't sink this ship!" So with human EGO as big as the ship the Titanic launched its maiden voyage. In keeping with human EGO, the owners wanted to set a record pace in crossing the Atlantic so caution was thrown to the wind as the ship sped through the icy waters. But then at 11:40 p.m. the ship hit an iceberg and two hours and 40 minutes later the Titanic sank into a watery grave.

But on board that night was a godly man by the name of John Harper. When the Titanic hit the iceberg immediately a call was issued for all passengers to vacate their cabins. Harper immediately put his 6-year-old daughter on a lifeboat and looking into her eyes told her that she would see him again someday. Since the ship was "unsinkable" they had provided only a few emergency lifeboats. John Harper cried out, "Women, children, and the unsaved into the lifeboats!" Harper passionately began to run along the decks of the ship preaching Christ to people. He called upon the ship's orchestra to play, "Nearer, My God, to Thee."

As the ship began to sink, he jumped into the frigid water with a lifejacket. Survivors shared how Harper swam frantically to people in the waters and preached Christ to them. He took off his lifejacket and gave it to another man who said he was not saved saying, "you need this more than I do". Four years after the Titanic sank a young woman by the name of Aguilla Webb gave this testimony.

"I am a survivor of the Titanic. When I was drifting alone on a spar that awful night, the tide brought Mr. John Harper of Glasgow, also on a piece of wreck, near me. "Man,' he said, 'Are you saved?' 'No,' I said, 'I am not.' He replied, 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.' The waves bore him away; but, strange to say brought him back a little later, and he said, 'Are you saved now?' 'No," I said, 'I cannot honestly say that I am.' He said again, 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,' and shortly after he went down; and there, alone in the night, with two miles of water under me, I believed. I am John Harper's last convert."

Whatever man builds he tends to build with GREAT PRIDE! This whole world system is like that. But it's all going DOWN! We read about it in Isaiah 2. In the coming Day of the LORD judgment God says, "The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. For the day of the LORD of hosts shall come upon everything proud and lofty, upon everything lifted up— and it shall be brought low—" (Isa. 2:11-12).

Knowing that the "Titanic System" of this world is going down, what should we as God's people be doing? Remember John Harper. He was saved at age 13 and at age 17 he began going down the streets of his city proclaiming the gospel. When asked what his doctrine was his simple reply was, "The Word of God!". His life was given to proclaiming the gospel and he did so faithfully until the very end. The "ship" is going down. Let us live in light of eternity! Let us give our lives for the cause of the gospel!

And if you are not saved (forgiven) BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christ and you too will be saved (see Acts 16:30-31). Believe on Christ as your Savior Who died for all your sins and as your risen LORD. He is the God-Savior of all who repent and believe on Him.

2 Corinthians 5:20–6:2 (NKJV)
20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
1 We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain.
2 For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
